ARTURIA - MINIMOOG - REVIEW BY ANSCENIC PENDULUM

Its been hailed as the greatest sounding synth ever made by some, so creating a software emulation of it was bound to be a daunting task...but here it is. I was as skeptical as anyone when I first opened up this program, but after a few minutes I was completely turned around. The interface is more or less exactly like the original, down to the knob shapes and wood finish casing, but look closer and you'll notice a few major differences. Thankfully though, they haven't decided to stick to the original form TOO much and have added a 'polyphonic' switch where the headphone socket used to be, which in my opinion is a feature that alone could leave a few original MiniMoogs in a dusty corner. NATIVE INSTRUMENTS - ABSYNTH 3.0 - REVIEW BY BARON

The long awaited 3rd version of the original drum and bass soft synth has now landed in its greatest form yet, if you don’t own version 1.0 or 2.0 you might have seen it and you will have definitely heard it. The original has been rinsed harder than q-projects liver (unbelievable I know!)

STEINBERG: XPHRAZE - REVIEW BY BARON

The big selling point for X-Phraze is the phraze generator, which can work as an oscillator and a sample player for multisamples. It works by having 32 Oscillator/Multisample Players in a timeline, each of which has their own setting for the parameters mentioned above. In simple terms what that all means is that all 32 parameters are individually controllable and you can make some pretty unbelievable sounds for use in drum and bass production. When I first got this synth I sat and messed around with it for a couple of hours and already had made three very useable lead sounds.

STEINBERG - CUBASE SX 2.0 - REVIEW BY ANSCENIC PENDULUM

I remember when I first tried out a demo of Nuendo 1.0 in early 2001, after getting fed up trying to record and piece together the separated tracks of a band's single in Logic 4.X...I learnt pretty quickly that Logic, while great for anyone using mainly MIDI based setups, lacked any serious audio-editing functions and it ended up taking forever to do the simplest of things. I was sure there had to be something better without having to fork out for a ProTools system - so in came Nuendo...

QUANTUM LEAP - STORM DRUM

Stormdrum is a new Sound Library plugin based on Native Instruments Kompakt/Intakt. Visually its very similar to NI sampler range, the difference being that you can only load the sample library which comes with the program on 2 DVD data discs. Some might view this as a downfall of the program, but the massive included library makes up for this. With 6 gigs in total of Loops, Multi Samples and original single hits, this set is as good as it gets Each hit has up to 24 way velocity switching and the overall sound of this set can best be described with one sound.....HUGE!
