the original break that these drum sounds where taken from is on one of the drum crazy complations. I have know idea where the original sample came from but i'm pretty sure that the people that sampled it got it from drum crazy.

Mystery1= Dont know artist: "Space Funk"
Mystery2= Dont know artist: "Sandman"
Mystery3= Sounds heavily processed
Mystery4= Sugar Bear "Dont scandalise mine" pitched up
Mystery5= Eric B and Rakim (one of the tracks from the "Dont sweat the technique" LP on 45rpm, you have to listen carefully for this one... only like a 1/2 bar loop)
Mystery6= James Brown (or The JBs?): "Soul Pride"
Mystery7= ???
Mystery8= Sounds very familiar.. cant place it..
Mystery9= Sounds like a drum machine to me, tams sound electronic

Okay, so I'm thinking the origins of these breaks is pretty obscure or top secret or something...
Respect to the Riot999 for some good leads, but:
I checked "Dont scandalise mine" -- dope track, but unless I'm very much mistaken it uses the "think" break which is different from mystery#4...
There must be some fellow beat freak out there who knows their obscure beats (yeah I know we're on some pretty geeky territory here but...), also:
"Space Funk" and "Sandman"...anyone know the original artist/track name? Mystery 5: Eric B & Rakim track, any more details? Mystery 6: If that's "soul pride" it must have been severly fucked with?
Anyways, my advice to all you tempted to go down the "I wonder where this beat came from originally" road...don't go there.

The problem is: You want to know the names of breaks which are no originals at all. Most of them are mixtures of single beats from different breaks.
1st break: I know a funk track which is called "space funk" by Manzel. I listened to it and I don't believe someone took beats from that one. Because there is heavy percussion going on in the background, there is no chance to extract hihat sounds. Manzel records are hard to get. But Alpha Omega records did a repress of "space funk" and "midnight theme". You can also sample the break from Eric B. & Rakim's "follow the leader " LP. I love the 2 tracks and I'm still looking for the original vinyl !!!

2nd break: dnb-artists' original :-)

3rd: dnb-artists original (but I believe to here the beats of Sly Stone's "sing a simple song"

4th: dnb-original (Beats from L.Collin's "think")

5th: dnb-original (portions of the breakbeat from Rotary Connection's life could. Some people call it machine break)

6th: mixture of whatever (but also "soul pride)

7th: dnb-artists' original

8th: also programmed ( I believe u can sample it from Roni Size's days without backgroundsounds)

9th: programmed

Cheers Sascha for setting me straight on this...
I guess I thought they were sampled from old tunes because so many different producers have used them in the same way -- (I guess they sample each other?) -- also, cos I first came across some of them (e.g. #2) at low BPMs...

I know for a fact break 5 is Eric B and Rakim, a track called "Rest Assured" from the "Dont sweat the technique" LP. When you put it on 45 you get the version you know and love. Ed Rush and Optical/Trace used it and mentioned it in DJ magazine ages ago, thats how i know.

Its that version everyone sampled and processed because a few of them even used Eric B's bass on it as well which sounds mad on 45. I think Nookie used the bass verion of the break on the Remix of "Only You". Now people just use the processed Mutant version by Trace.

Break 1 i have on a breakbeat LP but its a loop of most of that break with a few other bits, not the full track. The track is called "Spacefunk" and i assume the original is too because the other tracks on that LP have the original break names also. Ultramagnetic Mcs used it on "Aint it good to you" track on their "Critical Beatdown" LP....

Sacha i have a V V good clean version of this and i have the "Follow the leader" LP also, let me know if you want me to up either....
