yes! on monday I'm going to inspect a fully equiped e4xt ultra!
one quick question though: how do I check all the outputs? I thought of something like routing an audio file to all the outs and then plugging in my headphones. how do I approach that? is there a quick workaround how to set up outputs for the audition button or something like that? hope you understand what I mean. cheers!

cheers ransom, sorted
this also helped if anyone else gets lost Create a new Preset and name it e.g. "Keyboard Split". Go to Preset Edit. YOu will see the page "Voices-Main". Go to the next page "Vces-KyWin" and set the values for LOW and for HIGH to the same value (C-2 or G8) so that this voice is not played at any time. Go to the LINK-page "Links-Main" and add two Presets (Utils -> New). Go to the next page "Links-KyWin" and set the the Key Window for each Preset. |

Congratulations! Now print out the manual and read it front to back and back to front.

WILL DO! yeah I heard that manual actually is one of the best ones ever, so it might even become fun reading it. but first I have to find someone with a floppy drive, kinda hard in 2012 ;) cheers! Maybe I'll find a possibility to exchange data more easily to the emu and back, there seem to be some solutions for that, but I'm not quite sure, as everything isn't described properly for a newb like me, we'll see. cheers

I am a super noob when it comes to hardware and these Emu samplers... but I think I might be interested in picking one up to muck around with. Any tips on where I could look for one/what to look for? I kind of have no idea right now which Emu is what ha. I mainly want to mess with the cool Z-Plane filters. Thanks for any help. I think it would be fun to experiment with hardware.

Also its sampling interpolation is superb. Think of a violin you sampled, one note. Now press 10 notes at a time on your sampler and compare it to your emu. Most likely the emu will sound fatter AND clearer at the same time, same goes for pitching. Anyway: I'd suggest you check out emusonacid.co.uk and make your bookmarks on ebay. Sometimes some decent machines will show up there. I got mine from a private ad in the newspapers. Fortunately I had the opportunity to check it out by myself. I think I paid a bit too much, but it was totally worth it, as I could verify everything's okay with this thing. Take your time! Machines you'd like would be everything of the Ultra series. They're faster than non Ultras (quite noticeable) and they sound clearer. Also with Ultras you can update to the last firmware version (EOS 4.7) which supports FAT, so that you could pop in a 120gb drive and exchange data easily with your computer. Actually all samplers are quite the same with the E-Synth having a Soundrom installed already, so that you could use it as a synthesizer, with preinstalled waveforms I guess (hope I didn't get that wrong) The E4XT is the top of the line model which has extended polyphony, more midichannels, preinstalled hdd and AES/EBU extension, which is an option on all the other models. There is the E4 Platinum but this thing is rare. It's got everything preinstalled, even the RFX32 Effectscard (which has quite a few bugs). The E4 Platinum and the E5000 are just available in the Ultra series. All other models are available as ultras and non ultras. The E5000 is the smallest and most affordable sampler but it has some restrictions. Just 4 outs (so 2x stereo), not that good LCD and I read somewhere that it has a higher noisefloor on the Jacks. You could upgrade it to 12 outs but I think this expansion is also quite rare and maybe it would be cheaper to pick up a machine with it preinstalled (or standard 8 outs) than upgrading the 5000 afterwards. I hope I didn't miss something very important. Conclusion: Go for an ultra, E5000 less expandable, more noisefloor, RFX32 has bugs, non ultras sounding darker and are slower. On topic: Yesterday I just messed around with my EMU having a Midikeyboard for the first time (I know, I know, Just found out that I can assign some Midicontrolls somehow in the Midimenu. My Midikeyboard (Axiom 49) has some faders and some rotaries which I want to use. The faders have something like CC 70-90 but the emu just goes up to CC31? How can I assign them? Any ideas or do I miss something? cheers!
