I proposed using my Grandmother's ring which I inherited, as I thought my missus would want a say in the wedding ring design (she's the one that has to wear it). My wife loved the ring so much (it is kickass, total old world style shit) that we had it redesigned and altered, added more diamonds and shit. Cost about $3000AU.

My wife is non-traditional in every way.

She's not one for the stereotypical formal engagement ring.

We hit the pawn shops look for old antique/unique styles.

I still dropped a heap of dough, but not nearly as much as if I'd gone the regular jewelry store route, but even better, we found an antique two piece (engagement/wedding ring) combo that simply because of it's age (1920s) looks nothing like what you see today and is almost guaranteed to be nearly one of a kind.

She can't have loved it that much or she wouldn't have demanded that you redesign and bling out an antique heirloom!

Put at least 2000 Euros in the pocket, take her with you and go choose the ring you both (she) like(s).
That's what I did and we were both happy.
