SANTORIN

Please meet Telmo A, Simon V, Double J and Lightwood, four abstract men behind the Santorin brand who claim to be "an interpretation of drum'n' bass and more."
According to the Santorin crew; the German drum and bass scene has always been more underground than the UK's. "German drum 'n' bass could be more self confident" they explain "especially concerning MCs, there is a lot of talent going to waste". Luckily, Santorin haven't slipped through our fingers and are now beginning to receive the recognition they so rightly deserve.
"Santorin stands for the sunny island. It's a metaphor to describe the mental and social island people yearn to live on. We've been quite busy over the last few years rowing ourselves to that island, celebrating drum 'n' bass, producing and touring Europe, just to see our little vessel constantly grow and attract more and more people who are truly in it for the music. Everything is inspired by that surrounding, therefore its all about doing it proper and enjoying yourself with good, soulful music".
So when did it all begin? "On an island far away from space and time" apparently. It was on this island that they "put on their dancing sandals and just felt the bass."
Having all been born and bred on Atari and Amiga, each member of the Santorin crew bonded with one another quickly and found pleasure in programming soundchips directly. The production process took off even more when they started drinking full-fat milk whilst on the job. From here on their friendship with cows grew a little stronger.
From Swiss Jodeln to Tibetian monk choir, to Britney Spears and Breakbeat, there's not one musical genre that Santorin can't draw inspiration from. This information gives small insight into how and why their productions have such range. Santorin's latest output being two tracks set to feature on DOA's sister label, Under Construction [UC].
UC were not the first to notice Santorin's talents. In fact Warner Music put in a grand offer of "$1,000,000 dollars after receiving covert information by ex-KGB agents on Simon's super endurance Tantra techniques". However "Under Construction proved to have a better sense of humour" so they got the deal.
When asked about the general vibe of the track, Simon commented: "the vibe is something like take your clothes off" - how astute. So we can all line up for skinny-dipping then? I think so.
The Santorin crew are set to leave Germany for their late summer holidays in the next couple of weeks. They wanted DOA to note that if any promoters want to help them island-hop then simply email booking@santorin.de
