*DOWNLOAD: FREE BROOKES BROTHERS MP3 - 'RAINMAN'

‘Hard Knocks’ / ‘Mistakes’ is the fantastic forthcoming single from new kids on the block: Brookes Brothers. Currently on major rotation from heavy hitters including Andy C, High Contrast and Grooverider.

In celebration of picking up one of D&B's hottest new acts, Breakbeat Kaos are giving something back to their fans and releasing a free download of the exclusive track ‘Rain Man’ – call it an early Christmas present!

Founded by seminal producer / DJs - Adam F and DJ Fresh (Bad Company UK), BBK is arguably the hottest label in the Drum & Bass scene, their discovery of Pendulum and release of their silver selling LP ‘Hold Your Colour’ is testament to their ear for tunes that will appeal to both die hard fans and the more commercial end of the spectrum.

Recognised as an integral part of Drum & Bass, Breakbeat Kaos have enjoyed a label residency at Fabric London for the past three years which sees them give exposure to some of the worlds most exciting Drum & Bass acts on a regular basis. Watch this space for more news from everyone’s favorite label.

Brookes Brothers Q&A

DOA: Are you related to the legendary DJ Bruno Brookes?

We'd love to say he is our dear old uncle Bruno but sadly we're not related... hopefully one day we will meet him that is our dream.

DOA: A worthy dream indeed! Can you give us an insight into your musical history? What did you grow up listening to and how did you progress to D&B?

Well we've both always loved soul/jazz music but we grew up listening to a bit of everything really, guitar music, Hip Hop, House, Garage. Growing up in London Jungle was always there and we loved the odd album like Goldie’s Timeless, but we didn't get properly hooked to the sound until we started going out raving about seven years ago.

DOA: How did you get into producing?

We'd always wanted to make beats from before we got into Drum & Bass, but knew nothing about production, and none of our mates produced. One day we just decided to get on it. We got Cubase 5.1 and just started messing around.

DOA: As anyone who knows a bit about you guys will know, you collaborated on 'Verano' with Subfocus, how did that come about? Will you be doing anything else with him?

We linked up with Nick through a friend of his who played us his early tunes (about a year before he was snapped up by Frequency/Ram), and we were blown away by the quality of them. Nick had heard one of our tunes and felt the vibe, so we arranged to get in the studio together and see what happened. We quickly realized we had a lot in common musically and became close friends. Verano came about a couple of years later whilst we were all in Madrid staying with our good friend DJ Howtek. We've done another tune with Subfocus called 'Late Run', which should be dropping at some point in the near future.

DOA: You've now been (unless I'm mistaken, exclusively) picked up by Breakbeat Kaos, are you excited to be working with them? What are your plans with BBK?

We're really excited to be working with BBK, it's a label that has a reputation for top quality music so obviously we're over the moon that Fresh and Adam picked up on our stuff and liked it enough to back it as hard as they have. Both Fresh and Adam have made some of our favourite tunes so it’s an honour to find ourselves working with them. Our plan at the moment is to knock out a few more 12”s and then hopefully move on to an album project which we're looking forward to doing for BBK.

DOA: Which in your opinion is funnier, a cartoon bear or a cartoon monkey?

Hmmm - tough one! Well Yogi Bear was pretty much the don!

DOA: What if the monkey was wearing a waistcoat?

Hmmm, well you've got the little monkey out of Aladdin, Abu I think? He was cool. He had a waistcoat, so he just takes it… Actually, how could we forget Baloo from The Jungle Book?! He’s the winner!

DOA: Hypothetical cartoon questions aside, what do you think of DOA? Do you see it as a great place for young people to come and while away their lunchtimes, or as a place of D&B Devil worship that should be eliminated at all cost?

It’s great that people have a place to go and voice their opinions, and there are some real funny characters on there. That guy Jim Bergerac should have a TV show or something. Also The Grid is one of the best dance music production resources anywhere on the internet. We've definitely picked up a couple of good production tips on there so shouts to the grid massive.

DOA: If you had a catchphrase, what would it be?

Say what you see!!

DOA: Do you ever have brotherly arguments in the studio and have to phone your mum to sort it out?

Yeah we fight! Thankfully we live with our mum so she is always standing by to break up any earth-shattering ruckus that may be going down. So that is pretty handy. It hardly ever comes to blows although Dan has woken up a couple of times on a drip in the hospital. When you meet him check the scar on his face! That was me !!!

(edit by Dan - no, it was the table… Phil is a weakling)

DOA: Can you give us your booking details as I'm sure there are hundreds of eager promoters reading this right now (BOOK THEM HINT HINT)

Nice one Jeryl! DJ Bookings can be made on 0208 694 8893 / 07815-984-008 or by emailing us dbrookes@gmail.com
