DnB Filter VST's - Recommendations please...

Hey,

OK so I think I'm happy nuff with my distortion VSTs and most other FX but I still haven't felt comfortable with a great filter plug. The closet I've come is FAB FILTER VOLCANO and Basement Art's FRANTIC FILTER.

I've touched on NITRO also but whats the GRIDS recommendations for DnB Filter plugs?

but yeah VST wise
i think Fabilter Volcano & Sonalksis sound the best
Antares Filter is very cool for modulation and sounds decent enough
from what i've seen Filterscape looks like it could be very useful for morphing stuff bit complex though
I've also always found Nitro and Ohmforce a bit too complicated for my liking, though the ohmforce one can be

I'd go with Fabfilter Volcano, its got more modulation options than the Sonalksis TBK filters.

also check out the Freestyle Recordings bundle

http://freestylerecordings.net/foru...sp?TOPIC_ID=157

z-plane filter emulations and a load of other useful stuff for $29.99

though you'll need reactor for some of them.

I had a demo version of the Sonalksis TBK stereo filter. It was teh awesome. Both in sound quality and the pure wonderful simplicity of it's design. It's basically one big knob.

As soon as I can afford it, I'm gonna buy it.

I also have the antares one pictured a couple of posts up, but that shit is just too crazy. (I'm trying to write a song, not spend 3 hours learning which of these 800 buttons does what I'm trying to do...)

sonalksis have an amazing sound but limited flexibility, then again auto res is featured in few other vst filters

nitro sounds pretty nice and has some interesting routing options when you start combining other fx

volcano filters have a very clean sound imo, all around nice filters

filterscape was my choice for quite a while but in retrospect, i believe this vst is much nicer for long, flowing, evolving/morphing type sounds... it did not provide the "push and pull" i was looking for in my bass sounds, although it did render some interesting results

Check out auto-filter... it's dead simple.. TBK is great, but it doesnt have any LFO support:

I think I have that too... I'd have to check.

thing is, lfo isn't that important to me. when I do need it, it's built right into the synths that I generally use, and I generally only use it for VERY simple stuff, like your typical "ooh-wah ooh-wah ooh-wah ooh-wah" bass lines where I can just do lfo to filter synced at 1/4 steps.

I've found over time that the only way to REALLY make a bassline talk with a filter (like that sick reece in meditation for instance) is to draw that shit in by hand, lfo be damned.

appreciate the tip though!
