BRANDON MILES - KISS THE STARS
When was the last time you heard a producer who is just as comfortable working his beats to perfection as he is expressing himself on the vocal side of things? Brandon Miles is just that producer, and his debut album, Kiss The Stars, is a cornucopia of feelings, emotions and ideas, wrapped in a Technicolor raincoat, exposing itself for the world to see. The album picks up speed with ''Voyaging Nowhere'', a moody, emotional DnB number that is the blueprint for the sounds on this album: Brandon's soft, airy voice paired with beats that flow to the darker side of the EDM scene. One of the sad things is, the tracks without Miles' vocals are the ones that shine the most - the break-feast of ''Denial In The Moment'', the Grime-y ''Steel Toed'' or the Pendulum-esque fat beats of ''Altered'' show signs of a producer who is both skilled and chameleon-like. Tracks like ''Era Of Chimes'' would probably sound a lot better live, with a full on light-show and a room full of lost souls, but in your headphones it sounds too big for its own good. Also, the contrast in Miles' voice would have sounded better if the tracks themselves didn't tend to overshadow what he was saying. All in all, for those wanted to hear a producer who expresses themselves with the mic on and off, definitely give this one a whirl.
