ORGANIC (25 NOVEMBER 2009)
For fans of true breakbeat pressure, Organic has a special treat for you on Wednesday, 25 November 2009. London's East Village will be taken over by Organic with a special night featuring Heist dropping an exclusive Rufige Kru set! With his work with Goldie on Malice In Wonderland (among other projects), he should have some expansive sounds for the massive, fusing the classic DnB sounds with the forward-thinking Jungle of tomorrow. Zero T, who has been moving from strength to strength over the last few years, will be in the house bringing his brand of dark funk to the festivities. Astrophonica's own Fracture & Neptune is also on the bill, showcasing their particular brand of drumfunkery, highlighting the best in dusty breakbeat manipulation. Rounding out the bill is Medium resident FD, who is a worthy selection to complete this feast. Check out the full lineup here:
Speaking of Fracture & Neptune, we spoke to F&N about their Astrophonica label - we wanted to know why they started it up, what's next from the imprint and what heads can expect from them on the 25th. Check it out!
DOA: You guys recently established your Astrophonica imprint. With the critical praise you've both received, was there a particular factor that made you realize that putting your music out on your own was the right idea?
Fracture & Neptune: Well, I think getting older has something to do with it. We've always worked with other labels and now we feel we've got the knowledge of what and what not to do which gave us the confidence to start our own. It's a great chance for us to build a brand and its also a platform for us to basically do whatever we want.
DOA: How has the response to Astrophonica 001 been?
F&N : The response has been really good. Thanks to everyone that has supported it. We were honestly quite nervous but everything has gone really well so far and we can't wait for 002 now.
DOA: Astrophonica 002 should be on deck soon, no? When can heads expect to pick that release up, and when will 003 be coming out?
F&N : Yes indeed, we have mastered it and by the time this goes up we should have the TPs. We are still deciding on an official release date but we are aiming for this year, so December basically. Provided everything goes smoothly, we will be selling full artwork promo copies from our site very soon. One half of 003 is finished and we have just been putting the finishing touches to the other half tonight actually. Again, no official release date but we are hoping for March/April 2010.
DOA: Now onto the Organic show on 25 November 2009; what can heads expect from you guys for this event? Any exclusives or tunes the massive can look out for?
F&N : We'll definitely be playing Astrophonica 003 and some collaborations from Fracture and System fresh off the hard drive. We've got a lot of great music from other people right now so there's loads to choose from. Seriously, there is some damn fine DnB around at the moment. Quite an exciting time. We've really got to say that the guys from Organic are doing things correctly. Great line-ups and a good ethos behind the night; big up.
DOA: How representative of your set for the Organic party is the special promo mix you've hit us with?
F&N : Well, the mix spans quite a few styles and eras and I think that's how we've always played our sets. We've always loved to play upfront dubs and what not, but we still always play lots of older stuff. DnB seems to be very open again and a lot of the older tunes we often play now seem relevant again. We never really plan a set though so it often depends on how it's going on the night, but we have a pretty good idea of how to wreck this particular discotech.
DOA: What are some of your plans for New Years? Will you guys be out spinning or taking it easy?
F&N : We actually prefer not working on New Years! We've done it a few times before and find that it sometimes takes away from the fun of the night. We will probably be relaxing and having fun with friends.
For those of you itching to get at this special promo mix that Fracture & Neptune cooked up... itch no more!
