2 DOA old school Jungle competition - Let the voting begin! (pt 1)

First of all a massive thanks to everyone who submitted a tune a for this.

There are loads of excellent entries covering all styles of the early Jungle sound so get listening and vote for your favourite.

Keep an eye out for a mix of all the entries which we'll have some time in the coming weeks too.

Let the voting begin and the best tune win

Voting will close in 10 days time.

Please see the second thread for the next 11 entries, stupid poll won't let me have 22 entries!

Maiki kindly added all the tunes to a Soundcloud playlist if you would rather listen to them here

Erm Ben can I just point out, mine should just be called Cocaine, the 12 was the version, I always save multiple versions as I go along but usually forget to rename them when I send them out. In a way it's better because it's easier to find which version it was if someone likes it and I remix it later.
If you could change it that would be good if not don't worry about it.
Right now to find the link and get listening!

Told you it would be an amen fest

.

Anyway, think I've heard em all!

and I think there are 4 tunes that stand & above the rest

One of which isn't my own really wish I had the time to do a proper one, mine is really dry and thrown together in haste and pretty dull, but still... nay matter.

Not sure who I'm going to vote for out of those four, gonna give it another listen in a couple of days.

.

also

Barry of Botton: New Fashion for 94

what the fuck is this

That might even get my vote for epic lols worth

should we vote once per poll (so 2 times total) or just one time?

Yeah it's a pity I had to split it across 2 polls really because people could potentially vote for 1 tune in each.

Listen to your conscience though people and just pick your one favourite!

I'm split between 2, 1 in each thread so I'm playing the 2 of them on repeat until I decide on a favourite.
I'l probably get pissed off with both of them and end up voting for a totally different one in the end

Yeah but mine has a columbian talking about cocaine. Surely you must understand that jungle would not have made it without all the crack head gangsters that made the scene?

edit: bloody quoted the wrong quote!

Think mine is the least jungly out of all of them so far! Haven't listened to part 2 yet though.

I listened to em all

I like Adish's tune, not keen on the film sample, but liked the rest

Amen Fyre - less said about mine the better

Artists unknown, almost using bits of the same ragga sample as mine I think, but much much better than my tune proper old days flex tho

Atheory - has some tuff beats going on in there , felt it lost direction a little in the middle, not sure the keys went personally.

I quite like atriums one, thought it was a bit lucky spin'ish (I think)

That barry thing is ridiculous. omg. who the fuck is responsible for that one

Ben Kei - one got a nice laid back sound to it - told you you'd not resit an amen in there

Candy hands - I liked the ethereal sounds throughout

Dj A Twat (lol) - thought it was gonna babylon will fall for a bit there

Dj Id - lol this one is a bit mental - reminds me of a little angry thing having a fit in a 8 bit baked bean tin

Dj Rubdown - nasty rollout biz, reminds me of really old dillinja type thing I think

dlb, I really liked this, but thought it was gonna or should have progressed into something more vocal led/hands in the air type thing.

drum mechanik - ya bastard, I kept thinking my pc was having errors with that beep sounds like my pc warning beep. liked this one too

drumbeat agenda - it's yours remix?

frantik, like most of these I liked it, finding it a chore to type more things now, but yeah reminds me of something else old, but can't put my finger on it.

lethargik - strange tune with all manner of odd noises coming in, I kinda like it though still, more so before it drops. gets a bit too hecktick for me then.

liteon - I think this could have been arranged differently or something didn't seem to flow for me, liked the sounds though

Mocks one I really liked the idea behind it, didn't really like the execution of the beats

overdriveuk - reminds me of summat - scottie maybe but keep thinking of another old tune spiritual aura although it doesn't sound like it, mayeb a sound in there like it, fuck knows.

poscheck - really liked the ambiences in this one, sounded a little modern though, but good.

Skywalka - There where times I though I was listening to kings of the jungle - Charged, toward the end

sonny jim - thought it was gonna drop into mampi swift and fresh play me but didn't - felt it took a while to build up, then it seemed to have a mad vibe going on, nice atmos imo

soz if I sound a little harsh or negative in places or wrote more or less or whatever... on the whole I liked what I heard and I can't say shit as my tune isn't the best in there by far. find it difficult to type anything about other peoples tunes at all really, also quite tired and sun kissed atm. writing stuff about ppls tunes aitn my bag really but felt once I wrote one or two I would carry on lol. fuuuuuck iiiiiiit.

here's my 2nd/3rd impressions so far..

ADish
Cool tune but the sample detracts from it

Amen Fyre
This one grew on me.. i recognize that 'dark synth' from some old skool tune.

Artist Unknown
Production is spot on for the era.. the year on the mp3 says 1993 so maybe it is from then? Pretty good stuff. This one and Amen Fyre have the same bad boy sample

A Theory
Great tune but I think the production is more drumfunk than oldskool. It's also a bit bright.. the hipassed amen kinda hurts my ears but im sure that could be fixed in mastering. Digging this one

Atrium
Nice one.. nothing bad to say

Barry of Botton
Good tune with the most random fucking sample

Ben Kei
Nice one as well.. love me some think amen action

Candy Hands
Damn I think i missed this the first time i listened.. awesome glr style kinda like 96-97ish

DJ A TWAT
Cool tune

DJ Id
This one's got a 92 hardcore/jungle vibe.. cool

Dj RUBDOWN
I like this one a lot.. well produced sounds like it's right out of '94-95

will post the other reviews in the other thread.. listening to the other half now.. fuck listening to these again makes it hard to decide which one i like.

the mix will be sweet thats for sure

Ah thought you meant the Pink Floyd sample for the pad

the one you are on about is from a Korg Z1, most likely used in summat before though
