    why?

its a derogorotary term instigated from WITHIN the scene to describe certain styles - we dont need that kinda aggro - got enough negativity from outside the scene.:thumbdown

Hmmm, fare enough. I dont think it actually does anything negetive though. I dogged 'Twist Em OUt' but I own it, last time Dillinja & Lemon D came through town I dished out 15 some dollars to see them and rocked out. Its all in good fun in my eyes.

On another note who coined the term "Clownstep". I remember seeing Dylan use it first.

I dont care who coined it and Ive seen it being used lightheartedly - its just been used really negatively and immature people have been using it to slag down producers etc which imo isnt needed.

After this weekend, I have to say....JMajik is clownstep!!!

I was lucky enough to leave early during his horrible set (tune- and mixwise) before he was desperate enough to drop "bodyrock".

I never thought the clownstep term was more than just a doa joke. Then i read an article in Mixmag that specifically used Clownstep in reference to the style. I think Dylan coined the term actually

i'm tired of all the whining about one style of Drum & Bass versus another--just don't buy/listen/dance to the tune if you don't like it--a few slagging threads can be expected--but damn--the whole Clownstep bashing is sooo fucking old already. i don't like 'Twist 'Em Out'--nor that style--but i'm not going to whine to the world about it.

Its its own subgenre now........................I know tons of people out here who use it all the time when talking about a certain type of drum & bass. You UK heads might call it new age jump up, but most of the people I know over here call it clownstep.

I dont use it as derragatory, this shit sounds like circus music. Regardless it still makes me dance when I hear it. If it was so derragatory then why is Kamanchi putting out a tune called circus and why is J Majik & Wickerman making a tune called the clown? Don't tell me its just some weird coincidence that they kinda sound like clown music and are named that.

I read an interview with Grooverider back in the day when he said the term 'jungle' itself was originally a derogatory term used by some people (probably House snobs) to refer to the faster, darker breakbeat music that some people were making in late 92/early 93.

It'll probably be the same with Clownstep. When it comes to dnb/jungle music, slagging something off usually just feeds it and makes it stronger.

Personally I'd define Clownstep as any tune which sounds slightly ridiculous, but you still love it anyway. Doesn't mean you love it all though; Rubber Chicken & Circus are great, Fast Car is shite.
