My cat, Pris, is always bringing in lizards. I generally find their dried, shriveled carcasses when cleaning I will occasionally find a live one which I attempt to free. I've found one with his side ripped out and his guts exposed. I found him yesterday but lost him because Pris found him before I could do much else other that note the severity of his wound He's resurfaced, he's still alive and currently making a run for the door.

Do I leave the door open and hope his wound is not as mortal as it looks? Do I actively free him? Do I kill him quickly? If so how? Drown him in the toilet? Drop something heavy on him?

Don't really want to get the alien overlords involved thanks

He's almost made it to the door. Then he'll die of an infection from all the dirt in his guts. I suppose that's fair :smashed:

look up reptile first aid? if it's lasted over night it might be alright if you can clean and cover the wound some how so it can heal. if the internal organs are fuggered then it's probably a goner.

Best part of 10 minutes to get to a door?
Unless you live in a real big house, kill it.

Well, he wasn't attempting to leave the whole time. He saw Pris and quickly stopped moving, only adjusting do he could keep an eye on us. Once we left the room, he was near the door

alpha.enduser, I have medical tape. Would that help?

Get on your trauma medic hype:

Need to get him med-evaced asap, get on your comms and call in a med-evac bird. In the mean time apply constant pressure to any arterial bleeding, dress wounds with first field dressings, if bleeding persists apply quick clot, if bleeding still persists apply combat application tourniquet. Check for Pneumothorax, if found drain liquid from chest cavity using intercostal drain :twothumbs:

While I know that's contrary to actual lizard lifestyle but yet that is kind of why I opened the door for him, at least he could breathe his last breath free

He actually wasn't dead just yet...Pris got to him again, and he bit a rug. And now, he's definitely passed. He died a warrior. He shall be buried in the yard.

do they make cat muzzles? I'm gonna try the bell again...she did bring in less lizards then. I don't know that was the reason why but it"s worth a shot. Then cat muzzle ahoy

The other cats don't give me this problem: Spot eats whatever he catchs and Smeagol just catches birds, plays with them indoors and leaves them unwounded for me to set free later, so long as I find the bird before Spot, but then they are just pile of feathers

Yes, she's a cyborg (her CP unit whirs quite loudly when she purrs). It really should be spelled P.R.I.S. as it stands for Pleasure Reproduction Insemination Series (yes, the name was inspired by Bladerunner). Once she fulfilled the reproduction aspect of her protocol, we started calling her Lil Momma (the beau didn't know there was a rapper of that name and I live in the hood lite so I thought it was riot to yell out "Lil Momma" when it was wet food time). However, her real name is a song and it really is the only thing she answers to.

I had this issue with a bird before and thought i'd play hero, picked it up threw it in the air, and bam it landed on the floor, all broken, it was horrific. So i decided the best idea was to let nature run its course and let the cat kill it.

if you live somewhere with lots of lizards, there's bound to be a reptile sanctuary/rescue clinic, probably one that is even run by the national forest service. get that number for next time. and put a bell on your cat :care:
