note: i'm using the german cubase version (as you can see on the pics :teeth:) so i might give wrong names for menus and stuff.

go to the devices menu, click configure devices

select Midi

click on the + then select generic remote from the drop-down menu.

on the right you'll now see a split window.
the upper window is the setup for your controller - here you can choose the control type (fader, knob..), midi channel etc..
the second window shows the assignments for the controller, like the channel or the device you want to control.
don't forget to assign midi in (top of the window)

let's say we want to control a filter plugin on the first insert of channel audio 1, so under channel/category we select this channel [leave device set as "vst mixer"]

now that we set the channel, we need to select the device we want to control.
under value/action we find a menu with all controlable options for this channel.
here we pick insert 1sonalksis tbk - a sub-menu will open, listing all the the automatable options for this plugin.

now all you have to do is enable writing of automation data in the project window [by click the "W button, like when recording automation with your mouse] and you can go crazy on your knobs and faders.

if you want to control e.g. a synth instead of an effect plugin, you just have to select the plugin under devices.

yeah i thought that was how to do it, but my xio synth doesnt show up in the menu to be selected as the midi input, just the toneport ux2 which is just my sound card. (it has ports for midi footswitches but i dont think it can be used as a midi interface per se.

I`ll have another mess about later..

thats actually why i`ve been using the v-station so much lately. the xio has a v-station midi controller preset:teeth:

also kontakt is is wicked for automation, just drag and drop.

if you go to the "configure devices" menu, does it show up as active under "all midi inputs"?

it doesnt say, xio synth, it says usb audio device and toneport ux2 as the available options, so i normally just leave it on all midi inputs.

maybe i need to select usb audio device as im assuming that that must be the xio:smashed: :smashed:

Go to Novation and download the newest drivers mate, that should help because Im fairly sure it showed up for me (Logic).

BTW: Slightly off topic but what do you think of the Xiosynth in terms of sounds for Leads, Basses ? (obviously I know everything gets processed anyway).
I havent messed around with it yet been tooo busy playing with my Logitech G25 racing wheel, lol.

did the xio come with drivers?
i had this problem with my midi controller once, where windows installed the standard usbaudio driver instead of the one from the manufacturer.
try this:

go to the windows device manager, select the usb audio device and then "update driver."
use the manual driver search (last option), so you see a list of all drivers which are combatible with your device.
if you see a xio driver pick that instead of the standard usb driver.

Theres one or two presets that sound pretty good. nice and meaty kind of bass sounds. personally i`m not great at programming synths. i generally dont stray to far from default settings on presets. i tend to process the signal once its routed to an audio channel with effects. this and the fact that the controls are laid out with all these multi function buttons and shit makes it a bit annoying gfor tweaking sounds.
thus, i havnt used the synth very much. given a little time and patience i`m sure it`s capable of some sick leads and basses. the analouge modelling sounds very good to me.

Great Thread.

I myself just figured this out a few months ago and its completely changed the game.

I'm wondering though, if its possible to create a shortcut or macro that would open up the generic midi device panel where you assign knobs/sliders to the different parameters? My only annoyance with this process is there is no quick way to bring up the menu---maybe there is though, I haven't looked into it.

Also, can you make presets within this menu? Its annoying to have to reset everything when you want to automate a different instrument. Would be nice if you could load presets for your most used instruments/automated parameters.
