note: i'm using the german cubase version (as you can see on the pics
) so i might give wrong names for menus and stuff.
go to the devices menu, click configure devices
select Midi
click on the + then select generic remote from the drop-down menu.
on the right you'll now see a split window.
the upper window is the setup for your controller - here you can choose the control type (fader, knob..), midi channel etc..
the second window shows the assignments for the controller, like the channel or the device you want to control.
don't forget to assign midi in (top of the window)
let's say we want to control a filter plugin on the first insert of channel audio 1, so under channel/category we select this channel [leave device set as "vst mixer"]
now that we set the channel, we need to select the device we want to control.
under value/action we find a menu with all controlable options for this channel.
here we pick insert 1sonalksis tbk - a sub-menu will open, listing all the the automatable options for this plugin.
now all you have to do is enable writing of automation data in the project window [by click the "W button, like when recording automation with your mouse] and you can go crazy on your knobs and faders.
if you want to control e.g. a synth instead of an effect plugin, you just have to select the plugin under devices.
have fun
