not cutting edge, imo
nah but sufficiently groovy/loose on the timings etc. I like it, especially Peninsula. The bassline on that is p cheeky imo
got the vinyl delivered a few days back, great release!
it's very mending middle ground IMO
Part of the reason why I made this thread is Ivy Lab generates hype and people expect things from critical.
While that's not always where the cutting edge is at, if there's a solid effort at music with a release, I'm happy.
Title track is gonna get rinsed i bet. not totally my flavour, but it's decent enough
Is it a conflation of futurism and experimenation tho
Good question, ultimately I'd say the term has always implied both at the same time. To be at the cutting edge of things, to me, means experimentation and ergo, trying out new methods.
I'd wager that's what zeroec meant with cutting edge.
It's still important tho to keep in mind that experimentation within certain limits isn't inherently bad. Therefore, "cutting edge" shouldn't always be the axiom.
Turd release. Much prefer Stray and Sabre's solo work...
Literally cannot wait for this project to come to an end.
Sorry I was quoting mista from the other cutting edge thread, which is never good
I'm sure it is and that's what most people would understand it to mean in this context
right there with ya. ivy lab started out really really strong putting other producers to shame with proper top notch liquid productions. even did some really stand out techy stuff. then they went off....too off. im all for branching out but this sound is the epitome of shit to me. im so sorry but id rather ivy lab disband more than even calyx and teebee at this point.
Ivy Lab isn't really for me, but they're doing their thing. I'm probably just too old for that sound. The kids probably like it.
They're all great solo producers.
I just don't know what Critical is as a label though. They have no identity anymore. They're all over the place.
This shit bangs, all of you are just tired
Some of you just need to accept the fact that you don't like music, you just like your 20's.
If I like the music I like, do I still like music?
that would be true if you didnt like ANY current music. that's far from the truth for me tho.
I love this e.p and pretty much everything they do... I can see why not everybody would like it as its got more in common with hip hop and broken abstract beats than drum and bass.
Sounds awesome when dropped at the right time, my missus loves this stuff...
To describe it as 'turd' is ridiculous, you're either stone deaf or unable to accept music which isn't at 174bpm.
I like it. I think I like it because I'm older than a 20-something.
Calyx and Teebee are beyond hope. All went downhill after Follow the Leader.
Or someone with different (better) taste in music then you. x
TBH I was just trolling everyone.
Out of curiosity, what do you consider good?
drop at :50

Expert resampling, tasty transients 10/10
Not gonna lie, Sabre and Stray putting their manhours into making that boom bap shit instead of proper fast dnb can be disappointing. But, like, try to approach it from a different mindset, I guess?
I'm just fucking with you. I still think the entire Ivy Lab project is turd, and will age like a banana.
The funny thing is as I've gotten older I've become exponentially more open to the music that I listen to. This is just shit.
We're you been bummed by a large man calling himself 'IVY' in the school science labs or something? You're a very angry man lol
